Here is an excerpt from the book:
The light of the morning sun crossed over the canyon, rocks and rock structures over the land. A high shadow materialized converting the night into day as the howls echoed in the distance as dust balls ventured across the plains. Twin rocks merged as one as the sun grew higher over the mountain like stones of earth. Shrubs and small plants decorate the land in a canvas of browns and greens. Lizards and small animals run across the land as the day set in with hawks flying over to search for pray. A reflection of the sun bounced off a nearby pool that toasted to the morning god of their land. Embers crackle by a nearby fire being stumped out by a big shoe. Some men look back and kick over the dirt. A few being to march back to the camp in the distance. Howls of coyotes’ graze in the distance. The men move forward and the sun beamed across their face revealing a light caramel tone and light brown eyes. They marched to the camp in the distance. The sun moved over the lands bridging the night and day to come into union.
Some birds flew up high squawked as the prey move about on the ground. Some men reached the camp site to see many other men and women getting ready for the day with daily chores and activity. A woman with long straight hair, wearing a seashell necklace and obsidian color rock attached smiled at them. Another man kicked some dirt over the embers flying up. The woman wore a long skirt and short top. Her dark honey eyes glazed against the sun’s rays shining in them. She glanced up at one of the men crossing her path, wearing kacapi pants, his long black hair was braided to the side. His strong chin, face and cinder colored eyes refracted against the light. He grinned at her wearing a shirtless shirt showing his muscles. He carried some wood to the nearby hut and looked at the land.
The others began to move their items into the backs of the trucks. Many of the men and women turned to one another and got in quickly driving off. The man and woman placed things in the back slightly.
With the last item placed in the back, he turned to her, “Magena, don’t you love the summer tribal festivals of going back to connect with the land?”
